Cleaning Up My Messy Makeup Drawer!

I have been wanting to go through my messy makeup drawer for the longest time since I have been having more and more difficulty finding a certain lipstick or eyeshadow that I need for a look in my little mountain of makeup products. To save myself from more frustration, this is what I did today and I feel super happy seeing my nicely organized makeup drawers!

This is how my drawers look before:

As many of you know that I am a cosmetic shopaholic. For most of the makeup such as foundation, I tend to have have more than one skin tone foundation or I will have foundation of same skin tone but in different brand. With this many makeup, I find the best way to organize it is to put them in groups as shown. This way, I can see all my makeup in one glance.

This is how my drawers look after:

While going through all my makeup, I also spend some time to look through all of its expiry date and I found a pile of my makeup has long expired!

A lot of the makeup that you see here are actually a few years old and some are over 5 years old. I haven't use them for the longest time but just seeing the different colour eyeshadows make me feel happy which is why I kept them for so long. So sad to see them go :( but better to throw them away then risking my skin, right?

I am extremely particular about the shelf life of my makeup because putting on makeup is like a part of my daily routine. To better protect my skin, aside from applying skin care products, I also keep track of my makeup's expiry date.

Expired cosmetics can caused skin infections and irritations and even eye infections. So, please do not risk your skin or eyes for that expired product! A basic guideline that I go by to determine whether to keep the beauty product or not is as follow:

**For lipsticks, the best guideline to go by is the smell and the colour. If it smells rancid or if the color is turning dull, it has disintegrated.
Side note: eye products expired in such short period of time after opening compare to other beauty products is because they contained the least amount of preservatives and are made specially suitable for our sensitive eyes.

Let me know if you have any questions :)

Have a great night everyone!

Unconventional Smoky Eye

Smoky eye is one of most loved eye makeup especially during Fall and Winter season. Not only is it easy to do, it is perfect for all ooccasions especially for Friday Night-out which is also why it is one of my favourite eye makeup. In this blue look (experiencing a sudden brain dead, calling this the blue look is all I can come up with), I did an unconventional smoky eye makeup as opposed to the regular smoky eye inspired by this Fall runway makeup look:

HOW TO: SKULL PRINCESS MAKEUP TUTORIAL

Since Halloween is approaching, I would like to share with you my skull princess makeup tutorial. Hope you like it!

1. Before applying any makeup, I always prep my skin by cleansing my face with an oil free facial wash or another alternative if you are in a hurry is using baby wipes and do a quick wipe of your face

 2. Apply The Body Shop Primer to create a smooth canvas on your face and it will help your makeup to last longer.

3. To create a full white look, I used Make Up For Ever White Color Cream as base. Instead of using a foundation brush, I use one-time use foundation sponge to apply white colour cream as the colour cream is water-proof. You can also use Halloween cream makeup as alternative. I love this color cream very much as it blends with my skin smoothly and I totally don't feel the extra layer on my skin.

 4. With a thin brush, outline the skull head nose with a black cream eyeshadow (Make Up For Ever Flash Palette)

 5. Fill the nose area with black cream colour using an eyeshadow brush

6. With NYX retractable black eyeliner, draw an eyeline from the inner to outer edges of your upper lashline. I then extend my lower lashline as I want to create a more princess look than a scary skull head look. The extended lower lashline will make my eyes look bigger and rounder. Using a white eyeliner, fill in the area right above the fake lower lashline

 7. With an eyeshadow brush, apply LancĂ´me purple eyeshadow all over your eyelid area and apply a thin outline beneath the fake lower lashline

 8. Then apply Sephora Pantone palette dark purple eyeshadow over your entire eye area using your eyebrow as a guideline for outer edge

9. With a blender, blend the two purple eyeshadow together to soften the edges

 10. Again with a thin eyeliner brush, draw in the scary brow bone

 11. Apply false upper eye lashes (bought mine from eBay)

 12. Apply false lower eyelashes

 13. This completes the Skull princess eye makeup

 14. I then use a lipliner brush and apply white lip colour from the Make Up For Ever Flash Palette as the palette is good for eyes, face and lips

 15. Draw in the scary stitch mouth with a thin eyeliner brush. Hang in there, you are almost done!

 16. With a blush brush, apply black eyeshadow lightly right below your cheek bone to emphasize your cheek bone feature

 17. With The Body Shop Cheek Dome, apply a blush by the apples of your cheek

 18. This complete the skull princess look. Have Fun!

Feel free to send me pictures of your skull princess look if you have tried this tutorial, I would love to see them :)

Leave me a comment if you have any questions. I thank you all for leaving all the lovely comments!

HOW TO: WASH OUR PRECIOUS MAKEUP BRUSHES

As I mentioned before, makeup brushes to me are like my babies. Without them, it would feel like as if a photographer without her camera. So today, I would like to share with you how to wash makeup brushes as I think this is the number one most important step in maintaining your brushes.

To do this, all you need are: a soap and water

1. Before you start, always make sure that your sink is clean. To create soapy water, place a bar of soap in the sink while filling up the sink with half full of warm water.

2. Place all your dirty makeup brushes into the soap water and let it sit for a minute or two.

3. With one hand holding a bar of soap, I would give a couple gentle sweep on top of the soap to ensure all the brushes are rid of makeup residue. Do this to all of your brushes one by one.

4. then with a thumb and index give it a gentle squeeze in the direction of your brush to squeeze out all the makeup residue

5. Drain all the dirty soapy water and give your sink a quick rinse before filling it with half full of clean water. Give all your brushes a nice rinse in the water and you are good to go

6. Lastly, leave it air dry lying flat on a napkin (you can also use a towel or basket, whichever work best for you). NEVER let it dry standing in your brush holder as the water will weight the hair down and this will distort the shape of your brush.

This complete my tutorial! Hope you like it!

Yay! Recently I've been super addicted to all the skull head makeup that I seen from fashion editorial, on tv or on internet. So I decided to design my own skull head look. Although I don't celebrate Halloween, I think this will be a perfect inspiration for that day. Hope you like it!

Grey Season is Back!

I don't know about other parts of the world, it is raining cats and dogs everyday in Vancouver! All I can see from the weekly weather forecast is the ugly grey clouds. That is why a rain jacket and a rain boot is extremely popular and handy during this time of the year. So I came up with this look wearing my new Hollister rain jacket that I bought during the summer sales season along with my waterproof boots. My makeup look is simply inspired by the colours of my outfit and as the freckles, they are inspired by Pippi Longstocking.

What I am wearing:
Jacket - Hollister
Tee - NY Souvenir Shop
Pants - Urban Planet
Shoes - Converse
Backpack - White Chocolate

Hope you like this new look! Fall season also means that flu season has arrived! Remember to dress warmly and wash your hand frequently to stay healthy! Once again, thank you all for the lovely comments! Have a great night everyone!
